Restorative questions

One way restorative practices is set apart from punitive approaches is the questions asked after someone has harmed someone else or a community.  In restorative practices, we ask questions such as:

  • What happened?

  • Who was harmed or affected and how?

  • What are your/their needs?

  • What were you thinking at the time?

  • What have you thought about since?

  • What would you like to happen next?

  • What feelings and needs are still with you?

  • What needs to happen to make things as right as possible?
